By the time "Du Pre", "Dupre" (Hays County) was forced to find a new name for itself, the Carrington hotel was already being referenced as "the Buda House." In the "Dupre Notes" weekly column of the Sept. 25, 1886 edition of the Hays County Times and Farmer's Journal, the author notes that "The Buda House is one of the best hotels in the state. The polite and entertaining "hostess", Mrs. Carrington, meets all with a courteous welcome." According to the town's oral tradition, the name of Buda is a corruption of the Spanish word "viuda," or "widow," referencing the widows who supposedly worked as cooks at the Carrington Hotel. Others suggest that, like the town of Buda, Illinois, the name is a nod to the exiles of the failed Hungarian revolution who settled in the area.

Crescent Heights Henderson County
It is named in honor of "Davy Crockett", the legendary frontiersman who died at the Battle of the Alamo.
One tradition says the city was named after Vice President "George Mifflin Dallas".
28 July 1876, Galveston (TX) Daily News, pg. 3, col. 4:
The _Commercial_ reels after the following legend of the city of Dallas, which it obtains from Uncle Ben Christian, now of Whitesboro, Grayson County: In December, 1837, Wilson Gilbert, who had commanded of English's Fort, now Bonham, was sent for to take command of Bird's Fort, on the Trinity River, near where Fort Worth now stands. While en route the party camped one evening a few miles from the river. The next morning John Neely Bryan made his way through the thick heavy underbrush to the bank of the river, saw that the banks were suitable, and selected his place. He went back to the party, and they cut a roadway for the ox-teams, and drove down to the river. Bryan stuck his hatchet in a tree, and announced his purpose of laying out a town. Turning to Mrs. Gilbert, he told her he would give her a corner lot on the "square" if she would name the town. Mrs. Gilbert was from Pennsylvania, and an ardent admirer of the then prominent statesman, George M. Dallas, and suggested the name of "Dallas". The name was adopted, and the record shows that the lot was duly deeded. Bryan and John Beeman stopped here, Beeman making a farm near by. Gilbert and Tom Cozzens made a farm on the other side of the river, about two miles distant, but the heavy rain of the next year washed off Gilbert's pumpkin patch, and he deserted the place, going back to Tennessee.
The community name derives from Spanish for "place of gold"
The Anthony, Texas/New Mexico Chamber of Commerce voted to sponsor the "World wide Leap Year Festival". "Leap Year Day Baby", Mary Ann Brown, founder of the festival and the "Worldwide Leap Year Birthday Club", suggested the idea. Through her hard work and perseverance, a proclamation was issued to name Anthony, New Mexico/Texas "Leap year Capital of the World". Mary Ann had only a month to coordinate her first quadrennial event. It was a small party of about 40 people with nine Leap Year Babies in attendance.

DeDecker's Lupine, Lupinus padre-crowleyi C. P. Smith - Father John J. Crowley, Mary DeDecker, C. P. Smith
...
For nearly a decade (from 1969 to the late 1970s), this Eastern Sierra rarity was known as "Lupinus dedeckerae" Munz & Dunn, but then it was found to have been named earlier for "Father John J. Crowley". Some botanical sources still give it the common name "DeDecker's Lupine" (1), while others call it "Father Crowley's Lupine". It is fitting that these two devoted lovers of the Eastern Sierra and Inyo County should share association with this rare and unusual species. I'll say a few words about the two namees, both well known locally, then delve into the somewhat complex history of this plant's discovery and naming.
