Nanotechnology (W3)
Der Begriff engl. "Nanotechnology" soll im Jahr 1986 von einem DV-Spezialisten namens "K. Eric Drexler" in seinem Buch "Engines of Creation", in Analogie zu "Microtechnology" geprägt worden sein. Nach "www.jessesword.com" ist "Nanotechnology" jedoch schon im Jahr 1974 zu finden. Auch der Artikel von Michael Quinion (www.worldwidewords.org) weist darauf hin, dass Eric Drexler den Begriff "Nanotechnology" zwar bekannt gemacht hat und den Blick einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit auf die technischen Vorgänge im atomaren Bereich gelenkt hat, dass der Begriff jedoch bereits seit 1974 auftrat, als er von Norio Tanigushi zuerst benutzt wurde.

Die Kurzform "Tenglisch" oder "Tenglish" für "technisches Englisch" habe ich am 25.01.2009 zum ersten Mal gehört.

Wann genau das Rad erfunden wurde und von wem ist heute nicht mehr nachvollziehbar - aber es ist schon eine Weile her. Und niemand möchte mehr Zeit darauf verwenden und "das Rad neu erfinden" wollen, engl. "to reinvent the wheel". Aber auch andere Dinge sind bereits soweit fortgeschrietten, dass man sie nicht noch mal klären muß.

These nouns refer to devices used in the performance of work. "Tool" applies broadly to a device that facilitates work; specifically it denotes a small manually operated device: a box full of tools for bike repair.
"Instrument" refers especially to a relatively small precision tool used by trained professionals: sterilized the scalpel and the other instruments.
"Implement" is the preferred term for tools used in agriculture and certain building trades: rakes, hoes, and other implements.
"Utensil" often refers to an implement used in a household, especially in the kitchen: cooking utensils hung by the stove.
"Appliance" most frequently denotes a power-driven device that performs a specific function: a store selling toasters and other appliances.
