The NLR is the country's oldest state library. Today it stocks more then 32.8 million items, of which 6 million are in foreign languages. One of the world's largest libraries, it posseses the most complete collection of publications in Russian.

The National Library is a cultural institution with powerful and multifarious resources. The expert staff serves visitors in the National Library's reading rooms, performs intensive research, provides exhibitions, conducts conferences.

Today the NLR web site is designed for web users who have computer access to Internet. Recently the library started to operate the Electronic Document Delivery Service. Now you can request electronic copies from inclusive divisions and comprehensive collections, or your printed material.
