Vladivostok (W3)
Dt. "Wladiwostok", engl. "Vladivostok" bedeutet dt. "Beherrsche den Osten" oder "Beherrscher des Ostens". Die Benennng der 1860 gegründeten Stadt sollte den Anspruch Russlands in der pazifischen Region zum Ausdruck bringen.Die Namen russ. "Wladimir" und dt. "Walter" haben sicherlich nicht nur zufällig einen ähnlichen Klang. Die Umkehrung zweier Buchstaben zwecks einer leichteren Aussprache ist keine Seltenheit. Jedenfalls gehört dt. "Walter", bzw. "Walther" zu ahd. "walt-", "waltan" = dt. "walten", "herrschen" (vgl. dt. "Gewalt", "Verwalter") (ahd. "heri" = dt. "Kriegsschar", "Heer").
Russ. "Wladimir", "Vladimir" basiert auf kirchenslaw. "vlad-" = dt. "Macht" mit der Endung ahd. "mari" = dt. "bekannt", "berühmt", "angesehen". (Die Endung findet man auch in "Dietmar" und "Waldemar".) Im russischen wird die Endung allerdings (volksetymologisch (?)) auf russ. "mir" = dt. "Friede" bezogen.
