"Nicarao" war entweder der Name eines Anführers einer indigenen Gruppe oder der Name der Hauptstadt des Stammes. Der spanische Forscher Gil González Dávila kombinierte diesen Namen mit dem Span. "Nicarao" is the name of the capital city of the most populous indigenous tribe when the Spanish arrived in "Nicaragua".
