"Dauphin" (French for "Dolphin", see "Dauphin of France") is a city in Manitoba, Canada, with a population of 8,457 as of the 2016 Canadian Census, with an additional 2,388 living in the surrounding Rural Municipality of Dauphin, for a total of 10,845 in the RM and City combined.[2] Dauphin is Manitoba's 9th largest community and serves as a hub to the province's Parkland Region.

History
The nearby lake was given the name "Dauphin" by the explorer Pierre Gaultier de Varennes, sieur de La Vérendrye in 1741 in honour of the heir to the French throne. Settlers began arriving in the area in 1883 and two early settlements, Gartmore and "Old Dauphin" were established. With the coming of the railway in 1896 - the line ran roughly halfway between the two villages - settlement shifted to the present site. This coincided with the beginning of Ukrainian settlement in the area: previously most arrivals had been of British extraction.

Marshall, Henry H. (1916 - 1994), Rose breeder, Canada
Henry Marshall was preceded by Bert Harp as rose breeder at the Morden Research Station. Harp left no breeding stock, so Marshall began at Morden in 1970 with plants from a line based on Rosa arkansana. He had developed this line at the Brandon, Manitoba research station. 'Assiniboine' and 'Cuthbert Grant' were two of his early successes, and Marshall used these repeatedly and to good effect in his years of breeding roses at Morden.
Marshall reached the compulsory retirement age of 65 in 1981 The woman who had been his assistant, Lynn Collicutt, became the rose breeder at Morden.

"Morden Research Station" is an arboretum in Morden, Manitoba. In 1924, the arboretum was started by W.R. Leslie, adding to the Agriculture Canada Research Station established in 1915. Since then, the agriculture station has introduced dozens of new fruit, vegetable, field and ornamental crops. The arboretum and its landscaped grounds and picnic facilities are open to the public daily during the summer months from May until September.

It was conceived as "Tuxedo Park", an exclusive residential suburb, during Winnipeg's boom years from 1900-1914, and its development was enhanced by the proximity of Assiniboine Park and the building of the Broadway streetcar route (named "Academy Road" in 1933) in the early 1920s.
