Indochina (W3)
Frz. "Indochine", dt., engl. "Indochina", ist die Bezeichnung für das ehemalige französische Kolonialgebiet in Südostasien (auch dt. "Französisch-Indochina", frz. "Indochine Française"), das die heutigen Länder Kambodscha, Laos und Vietnam umfasste (1887 bis 1946).
Die Bezeichnung "Indochina" (1886) setzt sich zusammen aus "Indo-", griech. "Indos" = "India" und "China". Die Bezeichnung wurde von dem schottischen Poeten und Orientalisten John Leyden vorgeschlagen, der von 1803 bis 1811 in Indien lebte.
