Interest in language technology research for African languages has seen a tremendous increase in recent years. This is marked by the growing availability of digital corpora, dictionaries and tools for many (formerly) resource-scarce African languages. The AfLaT website aims to catalogue these resources for the benefit of researchers interested in African language technology.

AfLaT.org contains a steadily growing collection of bibliographic resources, web links and tools, provided by AfLaT members. We would like to invite you to join this community effort and share information, discuss research topics or just simply browse through the available content. Registration is free of charge.

On estime généralement le nombre de langues africaines à plus d'un millier, mais les langues d'une certaine importance sont bien moins nombreuses et beaucoup sont en fait des variantes dialectales [ 1 ] .

Répartition des familles de langues en Afrique.
Langues officielles des pays d'Afrique. Elles sont classées dans quatre familles de langues : les langues afro-asiatiques, les langues nilo-sahariennes, les langues nigéro-congolaises et les langues khoïsan.

Les langues afro-asiatiques

Les langues afro-asiatiques (anciennement nommées chamito-sémitiques ) sont parlées en Afrique septentrionale et saharienne ainsi qu'au Proche-Orient et au Moyen-Orient . Elles comprennent notamment les langues sémitiques , l' égyptien ancien , les langues berbères , les langues couchitiques , les langues omotiques et les langues tchadiques .

Les langues nilo-sahariennes

Elles sont parlées en Afrique sub-saharienne : au Tchad , au Soudan , au Niger , dans le Nord du Cameroun , en République centrafricaine , au Ghana , au Kenya , en Éthiopie et en Tanzanie . Elles comprennent notamment l' ik , le masaï , les langues nilotiques , les langues nubiennes et les langues songhaï .

Les langues nigéro-congolaises

Les langues khoïsan

MUTETE

"Mutete" is a bantu word which is common in Congolese languages: "mutete" ("munukutuba", "kibeembe" ...), "motete" (lingala). It means a kind of "long-shaped basket". In our case here, you may pick information on Bantu languages in that basket.

This is the very first version of the search engine, so it does not really come up to my expectations, namely not simply one more search engine on the web, but a specialized tool for Bantu languages that does not give too many results of poor relevance. In this version, "Mutete" does collect bantu data, but sometimes twice the same thing, or not always relevant to bantuistics. A selection and further details will be added in the next version. But already, in order to force you to be precise in your query, "Mutete" never provide you with more than 100 results, and not necessarily the more relevant ones, so that you are strongly advised to refine the query.
